Bond Pearce

David is an associate specialising in EU and competition law and is a member of the competition law group. He has worked on competition law issues in particular in the energy, retail, defence and postal sectors. He has litigation experience in the European Courts (ECJ and CFI).

David has advised on various state aid issues in the energy (large scale electricity generation as well as renewable), tourism/leisure, postal, defence and transport sectors.
Since 2002 he has worked almost exclusively on EU/competition law issues at Bond Pearce.  This has included advising on EU/competition law as it applies to public sector bodies like Royal Mail, the Central Electricity Generating Board (when state-owned), the Met Office, and local authorities when acting as undertakings.

Before joining Bond Pearce in 2000 and qualifying as a lawyer, David worked extensively on a wide variety of EU/economic subjects in London, Brussels and Paris, including as a member of HM Diplomatic Service and for the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development. His book on economic integration 'The Organisation of Europe' (Routledge, London and New York, 1995) was described by former Chancellor of the Exchequer Lord Howe of Aberavon as 'original and impressive' and by the Cambridge Journals European Review as 'excellent'.  He has lectured on EU law at the French business school HEC.

David has a 2008 Fellowship at the Finnish Business and Policy Forum (Helsinki) and is also a member of the Law Society's European Group. He has published several articles on competition law and financial services in the legal journal PLC, is the author of the chapter on competition law and hedge funds in Edward Elgar's Research Handbook on Hedge Funds, Private Equity and Alternative Investments (forthcoming, 2011) and is cited in the entry on competition policy in the next edition of the Penguin Companion to the EU (forthcoming, 2012).

He speaks Swedish and is fluent in French.
