Finlay is a partner with over 20 years' experience in the oil and gas industry, in-house and in private practice.
He and his team specialise in supply chain contracts and procurement in the oil and gas industry, advising operators and contractors on exploration, drilling, production development and operations contracts for onshore and offshore projects and assets in the UK and internationally.
He drafts and negotiates contracts for construction, procurement, operation and services, using bespoke contracts and industry standard contracts, and has considerable experience of the procurement tender and qualification process and the issues that arise in the negotiation and operation of such contracts, from both the operator and contractor points of view.
He is currently advising oil and gas producers on the contracts for offshore construction and development of fields in the North Sea, West of Shetland, and East Irish Sea.
His work includes negotiation of contracts for seismic acquisition and processing, drilling, well services, design, construction and installation of production platforms and pipelines and procurement of construction services.
He also drafts and negotiates contracts for sale and purchase and hire of materials and equipment and supply and procurement of support services including marine vessel and diving services and flight services, and supports operators and contractors in their ongoing operational requirements.
Finlay is qualified in English and Scottish law, and is a member of the Association of International Petroleum Negotiators and the International Bar Association. He is highly recommended in the Legal 500 guide to law firms and lawyers.
