James heads the firm's Property Litigation Team.
James specialises in dispute resolution involving contentious commercial property matters. He advises a broad range of clients (both landlords and tenants) mainly with national property portfolios including for example, BBC, Carlsberg Tetley, Enterprise Inns, Gala Coral, MITIE Group Plc and Virgin.
James' recent experience includes:
- a substantial rating appeal concerning overseas property
- a rights to light dispute where the neighbouring development has been substantially completed
- advising on issues concerning securing possession against various telecoms operators and associated issues under the Telecoms Code
- a substantial claim against an original tenant together including issues concerning disclaimer and vesting orders
James is recognised as a leader in the field of real estate litigation by both Legal 500 UK 2010 and Chambers Guide to the UK Legal Profession 2011 which says that he 'enjoys a rising profile as a "top-level, commercially minded lawyer"' and "continues to impress sources with his work for private and public sector clients"".
James is a member of the Property Litigation Association and the BCSC. He has published articles in the In House Lawyer Magzine, Property Law Journal, Tolley's Finance Director's Review, Corporate Briefing, The Lawyer, The Litigator, Western Daily Press, South West Property News and is a former contributor to Croner's Law for Construction Professionals. He lectures to clients and property professionals on a wide variety of property litigation topics.
