Those of you who follow the comments section on our website may have seen this article on how the Government could potentially implement the increase in the qualifying period for unfair dismissal claims from one year to two years.  We may not need to speculate any longer. 

As we predicted last week, BIS has confirmed that the increase in the qualifying period to claim unfair dismissal will only apply to employees who start a new job on or after 6 April 2012.  This means that we will not have to grapple with complex transitional provisions and any employees who started work before 6 April will only have to work for 12 months before being able to claim unfair dismissal.
