Our projects team has a wealth of experience in energy infrastructure and PFI projects, advising a range of clients such as:

  • project sponsors
  • lenders and public authorities on deal structuring
  • risk allocation and flow-down and 
  • bankability aspects of a wide range of projects.  

Much of our work involves limited recourse financing (senior debt, mezzanine and equity funding) and public procurement issues and it invariably demands a detailed knowledge of the relevant wider regulatory and operating environments.  

We also work in the secondary market, acting for buyers and sellers of infrastructure assets (including through controlled auctions) and on transactions to restructure and/or refinance projects or portfolios of projects.

Participating actively in various industry bodies relevant to the sectors in which we operate (including RenewableUK), ensures that we understand our clients’ commercial priorities and are able to provide advice which delivers real value.  In addition to the ‘day job’ of giving transaction related advice, we are always on the look-out for new developments and initiatives which may be relevant to our clients, and we run education programmes for clients in connection with new developments which are likely to affect their business.

Our Work

  • advising Centrica Plc on its successful bid to be awarded the rights to develop offshore wind projects in the Irish Sea, as part of The Crown Estate’s Round 3 leasing programm
  • advising London Borough of Greenwich on the development and financing of a £35m district heating network and renewable energy power plant(s) as part of the regeneration of Greenwich Peninsula
  • advising the Authority of Electricity Regulation, Oman, in relation to cross-border project finance documentation on the Barka III and Sohar II Omani gas-fired power plant financing transactions and development of 6 renewable energy projects in the Sultanate of Oman
  • advising Renewable Energy Systems Limited in relation to the structuring and development of two proposed biomass power plants
  • advising Centrica Plc on the disposal by Barrow Offshore Wind Limited of the offshore transmission assets relating to the Barrow offshore wind farm to Transmission Capital Partners (as part of the process of the unbundling of offshore generation and transmission assets)
  • advising CHC Search and Rescue Limited in relation to the Soteria consortium on the UK’s £3-5 billion Search And Rescue Helicopters PFI
  • negotiating terms for and documenting project finance facilities for 13 turbine on-shore wind farm in West Durham
  • advising in relation to the project financing of three onshore wind farms.
